Mick Hirst
Mick Hirst, Chair of Governors
Living locally for 40 years I am a retired Managing Director from my International Management Consultancy and therefore able to dedicate some of my newly found spare time to benefit our young people in the local community.
I held my first governor position in Oak Farm Community Senior School Farnborough in the 1980’s where both my children were educated. As an active governor during that period I was responsible for the fund raising Fun Run event being the major attraction for the biggest annual community activity in Farnborough.
After retiring in 2017 I joined, first the temporary, then the permanent Alderwood School Governing Board as a co opted governor. During my time on the board I have been actively involved with most governance area particularly Management & Leadership, the Leisure facilities on site, Careers curriculum, and have held the post of Development & Training Governor now for 3 years. In 2022 I was also appointed the LA governor.
Co incidentally in 2017 I was asked to join the governing board at Marlborough where I was appointed Chair of Finance & Personnel and within months Vice Chair of the GB.
Following the successful partnership period with Wellington Community Primary School we formed the current Federation and I was appointed Vice Chair of the new governing board.
In December 2022 our very experienced and long standing Chair resigned unexpectedly and I was appointed to replace him.
I have great faith in the ability of the members of our governing body to deliver what is needed in the community and I am very proud to lead them.
