Intent

At Wellington and Marlborough, children will develop a rich appreciation and deep love for a variety of musical forms. We will engage and inspire all children through a wide range of experiences so that they have increased self-confidence and creativity.

Children will listen to, appreciate and discuss a wide range of high-quality live and recorded music drawn from different traditions, cultures and times, and from great composers and musicians. Children will sing and play musically with increasing control, accuracy, fluency and expression, performing in solo and ensemble contexts, feeling a sense of pride and achievement in themselves. Children will develop an understanding of musical composition, by organising and manipulating ideas within musical structures and reproducing sounds from aural memory. They will compose, record and perform music for a range of purposes using the dimensions of music, using and understanding staff and other musical notations.
